Disney Plus, “I’m making a TV series for Indiana Jones.”
Disney Plus is pushing to produce an “Indiana Jones” TV series.
“Mousehouse and Lucasfilm have specifically raised the possibility of a streaming show set around the world in their recent meeting with writers,” Variety quoted a source on the 8th (local time).
It is not known whether Disney will make the Disney Plus TV series prequel or spin-off similar to the way it tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or tie it to the upcoming Indiana Jones 5.
The move to develop the “Indiana Johnson” series came after Harrison Ford (80) dropped out after five episodes.
“Sources say Disney is currently looking for a number of options to keep the franchise going, which could mean a series, a new movie, a different media or a combination of them,” Variety said.
This is not the first attempt. “The Chronicles of Young Indiana Jones” aired on ABC for two seasons from 1992 to 1993. From 1994 to 1996, four special TV productions were broadcast on the Family Channel (now Freeform).
Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic pop culture characters. Harrison Ford has starred in four Indiana Jones movies so far. Only George Lucas and Philip Kauf created the character, and Steven Spielberg directed the first four films in the franchise. The fifth film was directed by James Mangold of Logan. A total of four films grossed nearly $1.3 billion worldwide.
Indiana Jones 5 will be released in North America on June 30, 2023.
