Sporting in the preliminary round, Tottenham in the round of 16, and two uniforms in one tournament. Does this work?
Preliminary round in Sporting and Round of 16 in Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur rushed to recruit right wingback Pedro Pororo. After negotiations with Sporting CP, they agreed to ‘complete transfer after lease’.
Tottenham and Sporting were in the same Group D in the UEFA Champions League in the 2022-2023 season. Tottenham advanced to the round of 16 by ranking first in the group, while Sporting was eliminated as it finished third in the group.
The prisoner played in both matches against Tottenham. The prisoner who did so will now wear Tottenham’s uniform.
Tottenham will face AC Milan in the Champions League round of 16 on February 15. Can a prisoner appear in this game?
The Sun, a British media outlet, reported on January 31 that “Tottenham’s prisoners came to the Champions League game in Sporting, but they gained tremendous momentum because they could also play for Tottenham.”
The Sun introduced UEFA rules.
Paragraph 1 of Article 46 states, ‘A maximum of three new persons can be registered from the round of 16. The deadline is until midnight on February 2, 2023. This deadline is not extended.’
Paragraph 2 of Article 46 explained, “It doesn’t matter if the player participated in the Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League qualifiers, playoffs, or group stages.”
Prisoners can play against AC Milan if they register before February 2.
Tottenham worked hard to recruit prisoners throughout the January transfer window. Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is the right wingback who was most worried.
However, it was on the verge of being canceled just before the negotiations were concluded. Tottenham went stronger when Sporting suddenly demanded new conditions. Tottenham has threatened to cancel the deal altogether.
Less than a day later, negotiations resumed. The prisoner entered London on a complete transfer after loan.
In addition to the captives, Tottenham also recruited striker Arnaut Danzuma. He is aiming for a center back as the last puzzle of the January transfer market. Although he didn’t spend much money, he reinforced high-quality players in his own major positions. Expectations are high in the second half.
